TPACK!
Hi everyone,
I hope you are all having a great week and preparing yourselves for Spring Break. We're almost there, thank goodness!
This week in Social Studies, we've been learning a lot about technology, particularly with TPACK, which stands for Technological Pedagogical And Content Knowledge. After watching the video Dr. Parker posted and searching through "tpack.org," I have a better understanding of this technique, and think it is wonderful! As we learned, we can blend two of these areas together, like technological knowledge or pedagogical knowledge, but having all four categories is the most effective when teaching.
Here are a couple videos to watch that summarize TPACK very well.
Since we are all working on our Flipped Classroom lesson plans this week, TPACK is beneficial and basically summarizes what flipped classrooms are. When I am a teacher, and even before that, in Student Teaching, I will aim to hit that "sweet spot" where technological pedagogical and content knowledge are all incorporated into my lesson plans. This not only addresses NCPTS II.d: "Teachers adapt their teaching for the benefit of students with special needs," where differentiation is necessary in an effective classroom, but it also addresses NCPTS IV.d: "Teachers integrate and utilize technology in their instruction." Even further than that, I would argue that this method could address all 5 Professional Teaching Standards, since it includes so many aspects and requires a teacher to be proactive and reflective on whether the method is successful to his/her own students.
One more week to go and we can all relax for a little while! Have a great weekend!
Gabrielle

Gabrielle,
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of TPACK or SAMR before this class, but I am so glad that I know about it. I can't wait to try these things in my own classrooms. I am so thankful that at the heart of TPACK is student centered learning. It is all about the students. Thank you for those videos. They are very helpful.
Have a great weekend.
Gabrielle, I totally agree with you that TPACK and SAMR can cover all the teacher standards because if you follow them you will be a great teacher. If you can use technology, have good content knowledge and can teach that effectively then your students should be able to learn what you are teaching well. If you take the activity you want to do to the next level and use technology that was once unimaginable then your students should be prepared for the real world. I am so thankful that we learned about these strategies this week!
ReplyDeleteGreat connections with TPACK and SAMR to your flipped lesson plans! Now that you know about these two tech integration frameworks, how are you applying this information to your future classroom?
